AOTA Choosing Wisely Champion Campaign

• To recognize an occupational therapy practitioner, or a team of practitioners, who have demonstrated best-practice care to clients through the implementation of AOTA’s recommendations from the Choosing Wisely campaign.
• To acknowledge an occupational therapy practitioner, or a team of practitioners, who are leaders in dissemination (educating others) or translation (changing practice to fit the criteria) of AOTA’s recommendations from the Choosing Wisely campaign.

Nominees for the AOTA Choosing Wisely Champion campaign shall have provided evidence of one or more of the following:

1. Advancement of best-practice care to clients in an area of practice based on the Choosing Wisely recommendations.

2. Education of occupational therapy practitioners or students about Choosing Wisely and the related recommendations.

3. Validation through research on the Choosing Wisely recommendations.

4. Ongoing promotion of the Choosing Wisely campaign with external audiences (e.g., clients, health care providers, third-party payers, administrators, legislators).

The primary nominee shall be a member in good standing of AOTA at the time of the nomination and presentation of the award.

The online application includes the following narrative statements (maximum of 2000 words each):

1. Describe your involvement in Choosing Wisely activities to date and rationale for undertaking these efforts (e.g., advancement of best-practice care to clients, dissemination of recommendations to practitioners or students, validation of recommendations through research, promotion to external audiences).
2. If applicable, describe the outcomes of your dissemination and education activities to occupational therapy practitioners, students, clients, health care providers, third-party payers, administrators, or legislators. Provide examples and/or data of how your activities advance the goals of the Choosing Wisely campaign (e.g., for presentations: Who was the intended audience? Number of attendees? Was there change implemented following your dissemination efforts?).
3. If applicable, describe how Choosing Wisely recommendations have been translated and integrated into service delivery and interventions provided to clients. Provide specific examples of changes in interventions provided that are consistent with Choosing Wisely recommendations, and the overall effect of the changes (e.g., related outcomes in quality of care and/or client outcomes, systems changes).
4. Describe your plans for the ongoing support of the Choosing Wisely initiative.

Upload of supporting materials demonstrating your involvement with the Choosing Wisely initiative is required (e.g., letter of support from a colleague who participated in activities or supervisor, résumé/CV, photos from activities, presentation materials, articles).
