AOTA is a national professional association representing the professional interests and concerns of all occupational therapy practitioners, educators, and students in the United States. We offer a comprehensive compensation and benefits package including a 401k contribution, health insurance, transportation subsidy, and much more.
Our purpose
AOTA is the national professional association established in 1917 to represent the interests and concerns of occupational therapy practitioners and students of occupational therapy, and to improve the quality of occupational therapy services.
Current AOTA membership is approximately 65,000, including occupational therapists, occupational therapy assistants, and occupational therapy students. Members reside in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and internationally. AOTA represents 230,000 occupational therapy practitioners and students in the United States.
AOTA’s major programs and activities are directed toward assuring the quality of occupational therapy services, improving consumer access to health care services, and promoting the professional development of members. AOTA educates the public and advances the profession by providing resources, setting standards, and serving as an advocate to improve health care.
Fieldwork at AOTA
AOTA offers a limited number of opportunities for Level II fieldwork and capstone experiences. Fieldwork at our national headquarters affords students the opportunity to gain and strengthen their analytical, organizational, communications, and advocacy skills while increasing their knowledge of the Association.
Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
AOTA is an organization that values differences—in how we look at issues and opportunities and in how we create solutions. We are committed to creating and supporting a welcoming environment that is inclusive and empowering for our staff and for those we serve.
A beautiful place to work
AOTA's headquarters relocated in December 2019 to a newly renovated space on Executive Boulevard in North Bethesda, Maryland. The space is designed to reflect the work of occupational therapy practitioners by meeting the needs of people with physical, sensory, and cognitive challenges.
Occupational therapy practitioners contributed to the design, which includes calming features and artwork created by recipients of occupational therapy interventions. Located just a few miles from Washington, DC, AOTA's offices are conveniently located near the White Flint station on Metro's Red Line.
